Chinese Paladin 3

Cast:
Hu Ge as Jing Tian/Long Yang/Fei Peng:
Jing Tian is a youth with no worries and acts as if he doesn't have a care in the world. His first adventure in this drama was to help defeat the enemies of Tang Stronghold with Xue Jian, the 'supposed' granddaughter of the Tang Chief. Although he appears to be uncaring, he is actually a really selfless person, as shown later on in the drama episodes. He falls in love with Xue Jian but refuses to admit it until the last half of the drama, when Xue Jian was hurt by Evil Sword Immortal. He discovered his whole history throughout the drama, his previous lives being Long Yang, the Prince of Jiang and the great general of the Celestial Realm, Fei Peng, who was the 'lover' of Xi Yao, a fairy guarding a sacred fruit tree.

Yang Mi as Tang Xue Jian/Xi Yao:
Both Xue Jian and Jing Tian own a piece of jade, depicting the same picture in opposite ways to each, so that when put together, make a whole, which was the beginning of their fates being entwined. Xue Jian previously had a tiny crush on Shu Shan disciple Chang Qing, but ultimately falls for Jing Tian due to his lively nature and their numerous adventures together. She thought she was the precious grand daughter of Chief Tang, but is revealed that she is actually an orphan, and that Chief Tang was not her real grand father. She also discovers that she was actually born from a celestial fruit tree, sent down to Earth to look for the reincarnation of General Fei Peng, which is Jing Tian. During her adventures, she comes to realise that Jing Tian is not the person she first thought him to be.

Liu Shi Shi as Long Kui
Long Kui is the undying Princess of Jiang from a thousand years ago, who was sealed into the Demonic Sword when she jumped into the kiln. The curse would only be broken when she reunited with the reincarnation of her Imperial Older Brother, Long Yang, which is the previous life of Jing Tian. During her long wait for Jing Tian to discover her, she was bullied in the Demon Locking Pagoda, so she had to find a way to protect herself-thus the red version of herself emerged as her guard. For the first half of the drama, Long Kui is oblivious to the fact that she has another 'self' on her-the red self, which appears when she is threatened or Jing Tian is threatened. She is very possesive of Jing Tian, and sometimes tries to harm Xue Jian by colluding with Evil Sword Immortal, but always regrets it afterwards due to the sadness of Jing Tian. In the end, she dies by sacrificing herself to the sword to help Jing Tian defeat Evil Sword Immortal.

Wallace Huo as Xu Chang Qing:
Chang Qing has been a taoist disciple throughout all of his lifetimes-in his third cycle, he is the eldest disciple of Shu Shan. His memory of his past lives were sealed by his masters and elders, for fear he would remember his love for Zi Xuan, the now 200 year old undying descendant of NuWa. During the drama, to save Zi Xuan from a mortal wound, the elders had to unseal his memories, and Chang Qing, being the taoist disciple he was, refused to accept that there was still love between Zi Xuan and himself. He also discovers that he had had a daughter with Zi Xuan in his previous life of Lin Ye Ping. The name of the child was Qing'Er, who was sealed by the Water Pearl for 100 years. She is the mother of Ling'Er in Chinese Paladin, and the Queen of Nan Zhao-Wu Hou.

Tang Yan as Zi Xuan:
Zi Xuan is the 200 year old undying Nu Wa descendant, who takes love as her main goal in life. She was ChangQing's lover for 2 lifetimes, and even though in this lifetime, Chang Qing refuses to accept her for most part of the drama, she remains undyingly faithful to Chang Qing. She is afraid of growing old, and that Chang Qing won't love or recognise her anymore, so she used numerous ways to keep her youthfulness. One, was to seal her daughter Qing'Er in the Water pearl so that she could remain undying-Two, she stole the heart of Chong Lou, the liege of the monsters, which made him fall in love with her.

Why Chinese Paladin 2 wasn't filmed (credit to chinesepaladin.org)

After the success of the 2004 Chinese Paladin drama starring Hu Ge as Li Xiaoyao, Liu Yifei as Zhao Ling’er and An Yi Xuan as Lin Yue Ru, many fans were left dying for more. The ending was so sad that fans have even produced their own alternate endings in the form of video & fanfiction to fill in the void in their hearts.

However, is a sequel actually possible?
Although the drama was based off the game, there were some drastic changes made in the story, characters and relationships. For one, and I think this is the biggest problem, is that the protagonist of “Legend of Sword and Fairy 2″ is actually Wang Xiaohu. Does the name sound familiar? That’s right, Xiaohu is Li Xiaoyao’s dotty unattractive friend who appears in the first episode.
In the original game, he was supposed to be a 10 year old boy who lives in Li Xiaoyao’s hometown. He looked up to Xiaoyao as his idol and wanted to be like him one day. Li Xiaoyao is supposed to be heroic, righteous and filial, though he is far from that in the drama adaption. While there is nothing wrong with a bit of character change, this makes Xiaohu’s relationship with Xiaoyao already quite different… and Xiaohu’s character in the drama isn’t that appealing.

Moving onto my next point, another Chinese Paladin sequel “killer” is the ending and the director’s choice to kill off all the main characters (apart from Li Xiaoyao). Aside from Zhao Ling’er, none of the other characters are supposed to die. Lin Yueru is supposedly “revived” in the end, and neither Ah Nu or Tang Yu sacrifice themselves. Liu Jin Yuan is nowhere near as significant as he was in the drama, and also does not die. Now that most of the main cast are dead, what would happen in a sequel? It sounds like something quite hard to pull-off well.
Therefore, instead of creating a drama based on the second series, the company decided they would jump straight to Chinese Paladin 3, a prequel to the original series which occurs 50 years before. This seems to resolve all of the problems we discussed above. The prequel has a much stronger story-line than Chinese Paladin 2 (which sadly turned out to be a flop).
Let’s just hope they will film Chinese Paladin 4 and 5 in the near future! I will definitely be waiting for it :)

My Notes:
I totally agree with ChibiJennifer's views, and am also waiting for PAL4 or 5 to be turned into a drama!
I saw in a youtube comment somewhere that apparently, the CEO of the company stated that PAL4 will be turned into a drama, and will start filming late this year :)
